Music and worship

Our aim at Hazel Grove Baptist is to see Jesus honoured and glorified. Through our music we seek to lead people into a real engagement with God using many different types and styles of music, from contemporary worship using up to date songs through to traditional and classical music. We seek to worship God in a way that is relevant to today, in styles that connect with the types of music people can relate to yet at the same time not ignoring the importance of the worship music of previous generation

The musical life at the church is very active. As a fellowship we are blessed to have a good number of experienced and talented musicians and singers who help lead the church in worship.

We currently have 2 worship teams, an adult choir and are currently in the process of setting up a children’s choir. We also have a team that helps lead the children in worship.

Worship teams
We have two worship teams with around 30 members in total. As teams we meet to practice, pray and worship together. We believe it is important that good relationships are built and maintained if we are to worship together in unity.

A Wednesday evening rehearsal!

We aim to be the best we can musically but we see this as only any use if it is done in the context of lives that are lived out in worship to God.

Worship team 1 meets each Wednesday night and plays for the majority of the services. This team is geared for people who can commit to weekly practices and regular leading on a Sunday.

Worship team 2 meets once a month on a Thursday and plays for a couple of services each month.

One of the aims in setting up a 2nd group was to provide a place where people who wanted to be involved musically but were unable to commit to weekly practices could still be active in playing and leading the church in worship.

Choir
The church choir normally meets from September through to Christmas and sometimes in the weeks before Easter. We have around 45 singers.

Over the past few years we have run an annual fund raising concert for the Furniture Station. The choir has taken a leading role in these and have sung music as diverse as Gregorian Chant, Handel and Vivaldi through to arrangements of Robin Mark songs and a complete performance of Graham Kendrick’s ‘Rumours of Angels’

The CD of last years concert will be available in the autumn.

The choir is open to everyone so if you enjoy singing you are welcome to join us. Check the church notice sheet for details of practices, or use the music & worship contact details.

Children’s Choir
The aim is to have this up and running by the autumn, more details will appear nearer the time.

CDs
Last year the worship group recorded a CD entitled ‘The Power of Your Love’ a selection of some of the favourite worship songs used by the church over the past few years. There are still a few copies available for more details please use the contact details for music & worship.

We are hoping to begin work on a second CD fairly soon which will be available either later this year or in early 2005.

CDs of the 2003 Christmas concert are available.
